I'm always interested in viewing other people's Super-8 films yet am amazed at how difficult this task can be. Canyon Cinema in SF and the Filmmaker's Cooperative in NYC have huge catalogs of all of these experimental films, some of which are S8, yet, they are make it virtually impossible to view.
One would assume that most filmmakers would want their experimental work to reach larger audiences, yet, the way these companies are set up you have to pay up the ass for a rental print -- very few of these are available on video. I would think that filmmakers would rather have their films be rented on video so as to keep their copy of the print in pristine condition.

Does anyone else share my frustration in this? It would be really cool to see some of these S8 pioneers' films like Lenny Lipton's but for now it's virtually impossible.

My frustration lies in the fact that the university I attend has a MASSIVE collection of 16mm prints, dating back to the 40's, but you can't even get near them unless you are a faculty member, and then for only one day... that sucks.

Throne of Blood and Winchester '73 and a bunch of other stuff... that pisses me off.
